Vocabulary words for Ugly Vegetables

Below are the vocabulary words we are working on this week for Ugly Vegetables. Please take some time to review them periodically or check back here to practice the words.

    1. blooming (v.) – blossoming; growing into a flower
    2. shovels (n.) – tools with a long handle and flattened scoop to help with digging
    3. scent (n.) – a special smell that comes from something
    4. tough (adj.) – strong; not likely to break or wear out
    5. wrinkled (adj.) – having small, uneven lines or creases
    6. plain (adj.) – not fancy or pretty
    7. muscles (n.) – tissues in your body that help you move and work
    8. nodded (v.) – to move the head up and down in a quick motion that may say “okay”

The following are the vocabulary words for this week for the story Teacher's Pets. Please take some time to review them with your child.

  1. wonderful (adj.) – great; very good; awesome
  2. noises (n.) – sounds that someone or something makes
  3. quiet (adj.) – not loud; a little or no sound
  4. sprinkled (v.) – to drop or spread small pieces or amount of something over something
  5. share (v.) – to have or use with others
  6. noticed (v.) – to look carefully; to become aware of something or someone by looking or hearing, etc.
  7. bursting (v.) – to be completely filled with something; very full
  8. suddenly (adv.) – very quickly in an unexpected way; in a sudden way

Below are the vocabulary words we are working on this week for Diary of a Spider. Please take some time to review them periodically or check back here to practice the words.

The following are the vocabulary words for this week for the story Diary of a Spider. Please take some time to review them with your child.

  1. insects (n.) – a kind of animal with six legs and three body parts (like an ant)
  2. dangerous (adj.) – not safe; full of danger
  3. scare (v.) – to cause someone or something to become afraid
  4. sticky (adj.) – usually has things attach (or stick) to it (i.e. Glue is very sticky.)
  5. rotten (adj.) – spoiled; decayed; no longer able to use
  6. screaming (v.) – shouting very loudly in a high, screechy voice
  7. breeze (n.) – a gentle (soft) wind
  8. judge (v.) – decide; form an opinion about something

Below are the vocabulary we will be focusing on. They come from our first story out of the textbook, Henry and Mudge: The First Book.

Please take some time to review them with your child.

  1. curly (adj.) – having curls; formed into a round shape
  2. straight (adj.) – not having curves, bends, angles, or curls
  3. floppy (adj.) – soft and bends easily
  4. weighed (v.) – to measure how heavy something is
  5. collars (n.) – a small belt that goes around a dog’s neck and holds dog tags
  6. drooled (v.) – to let saliva (spit) flow out of the mouth
  7. stood (v.) – to be upright on your legs and feet; standing
  8. row (n.) – a straight line of people or things next to each other
